More Families Resorting To Indoor Activities To Stay Cool During The Summer Heat

Beat the Summer Heat at Boca Ice

With Palm Beach County under another heat advisory on Monday, many families are trying to find fun activities to stay cool indoors.

For some parents, that means ditching the flip-flops and swapping them for ice skates at Boca Ice & Fine Arts Center.

“Just a breath of fresh air,” Jake Dinov, the co-founder and owner of Boca Ice & Fine Arts Center, told WPBF 25 News. “We have everything under this 74,000-square-foot facility in a cool environment– Two twin NHL-sized ice rinks, it’s always 58 degrees in here.”

The ice-skating rink also offers activities like skiing, ice hockey, bumper cars on ice, as well as arcades.

“I got to come from shorts in the car, and I got to put on my winter clothes when I come in here,” Dinov said.

“It’s really hot, but we just swim all day, so it’s good for us,” Ali Garston said.

She says having a new ice-skating rink in Boca Raton is a great way to cool off from the heat.

“It’s a great break. You could feel the cold when you walk in the doors,” she said.

“We’re looking for things, ways to get the kids to cool off and still have fun. A lot of times, it’s too hot to go to the parks outside,” Wayne Walker, a parent, told WPBF 25 News.

Boca Ice officials said they’ve also seen a spike in customers as more people are trying to find fun ways to spend time indoors this summer.

“This is the real heat out there,” Dinov said. “You want to come in here, you’re just refreshed.”
